MCBA-Ignited Bookbinding Competiton

The Minnesota Center for the Book Arts is currently exhibiting the winners for the Ignited: Winning Designs and Wonderful Words competition. This competition called for bindings to be designed for the Laurel Poetry Collective’s 2006 Anthology.

The exhibition displays 21 broadsides by the Collective’s poets and 35 bookbinding entries, in addition to the winners in five categories for the Ignited competition:

Best Thematic Interpretation – Esther Kibby
Best use of Handmade Paper – Theresa Harsma
Best use of Leather – Dennis Ruud
Best use of Alternative Materials – Lori Brink
Overall Excellence – Jana Pullman

The Jurors were:
Wendy Fernstrum, book artist and printmaker
Paulette Myers-Rich, photographer, book artist and educator
Bridget O’Malley, papermaker, book artist and proprietor of Cave Paper
Yvette Nelson and Mary L. Junge representing the Laurel Poetry Collective

The opening reception and poetry reading for the exhibition were on May 18, from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibition will be on display until July 8, 2006. The books are up for sale during the show and in the MCBA Shop.
